INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY OF THE EDO
Brief introduction of EDO:
The Ezaz-e-Niswan Development Organization (EDO) was born in June 2006 out of desire to engage some educated and devoted women for the emancipation of rural based communities in general, the minorities and other marginalized groups in particular. EDO is women led and registered body under the Societies Act 1860 since March 2007.
EDO initiatives are for the marginalized families through services to the women, children and youth.
The 1st initative was to hold a survey on dropout children, then the motivation of mothers to put their children in the schools nearby. Since then women have been motivated towards education and devleopment of the family. On the basis of response, the EDO made choice to work with women of all faiths. Since June 2007 the EDO has been working with rural based women (farm workers) in 15 villages and 12 schools of Sargodha and Jhang districts.
The project being undertaken is Elimination of Violence Against Women Through Gender Sensitization. The EDO has undertaken projects on Human Rights Awareness, Interfaith Harmony through Sports, Peace Education in Schools, Skill Building with Women, Gender Sensitization and Responded to “Cry of the needy” in Flood Situation 2010.
With women our activities are monthly meetings on local and world issues on the situation of women, sharing stories, mutual listening, building sisterhood spirit, gaining voice and sharing their concern on gender issues. Raising awareness through holding seminar’s on international days such as “Women International Day – March 8th, World Water Day – April 21, May Day- May 1st, Environment Day – June 5th , World Peace Day – September 21, Rural Women Day – October 15th, Children Day – November 20th, World Day of Violence against Women – November 25th, and Human Rights Day – December 10th , Our services did make a difference in the target areas. We can see signs of hope as women volunteer as external observers are willing to assist us in planning and conducting all the activities with our team.
